- Head injuries, especially to the frontal lobe of the brain (the area that controls impulses and emotions), during childhood
- Problems related to pregnancy:
- Low birth weight
- Premature delivery
- Alcohol and tobacco use during pregnancy
- Exposure to environmental toxins (lead, PCBs, or pesticides)
